Why do I need to backup my cloud data?
To protect it from loss. Approximately one-third of data loss is caused by user errors such as the accidental deletion of data or committing changes in error. In addition to user errors, issues such as hacked accounts, 3rd party app synchronization and temporary outages can all put your data at risk.
How does CloudAlly define an “account” for purposes of monthly billing?
An account is defined as:
- Each active Office 365, Google Apps or Salesforce User
- Each SharePoint Online or OneDrive for Business Site
- Each individual personal Google Gmail or Yahoo! Mail account
Do I need a separate CloudAlly account for each online service such as Office 365, Salesforce, Google Apps, etc?
No, You can backup all of your accounts with a single CloudAlly account.
Where is my data stored?
Your archives are stored in Amazon S3 secure storage. You can select an Amazon data center in the US, EU or Australia when you set-up your CloudAlly account to comply with local data privacy requirements.
How often is my data backed up?
By default the daily backup time is set to 02:00 UTC, but you can change the backup time from the Backup settings page. You can also perform an on-demand backup at anytime at the domain or user level.
How long do you keep my data?
We provide unlimited retention of your daily archives for as long as you maintain your CloudAlly account and will only delete it if and when you choose to cancel your account.
How much storage does CloudAlly provide?
We provide unlimited storage so that’s one less thing for you to worry about.
How do I restore my data?
You can locate the data that you want to restore by using a date snapshot or our search function. Once you’ve selected the data to be restored and click on restore, the backup data will be restored in a non-destructive method by creating a sub-folder labeled CloudAlly Restore with a time/date stamp. You can then locate the needed information and delete the sub-folder as soon as you are finished.
Can I restore data from one user to another within the same domain or to a different domain?
Yes, individual Office 365, Google Apps, Gmail and Yahoo! Mail archives can be restored to another individual if needed by specifying a destination field.
Does each new CloudAlly backup overwrite the previous day’s backup?
No, our backups are non-destructive and will not overwrite a previous day’s archive.
Does CloudAlly overwrite my existing G Suite / Google Apps data when I restore from a backup?
No, CloudAlly’s restore process is non-destructive and will not overwrite your existing data. Restored data includes a unique label containing “CloudAlly Restore” and a time/date stamp of the archive used for the restore.
Can I save the backup data on my local machine?
Yes, you can use the export function and then download the zip extract file to store the data locally.
Doesn’t my cloud provider already backup my data?
Yes, cloud service providers have built in redundancy and backups for their own disaster recovery, but not for your own personal disaster (see #1 above…) Most service providers are unable to recover customer data once it’s been purged from the recycle bin. CloudAlly solves this problem by providing secure, automatic cloud based backup and restore services with a few simple clicks.
Is my data secure with CloudAlly?
Yes, your data is secure every step of the way. Stored data is encrypted using advanced AES-256 encryption algorithms, and all data transmitted between you, the online application and CloudAlly is encrypted and secured using SSL (HTTPS) enabled servers. All of our servers are strongly secured, hardened and include the latest security patches. Each application backup is encrypted using a unique encryption key so in the unlikely even that a key is compromised, it cannot be used to decrypt the other application backups.
Where is my data stored for Data Privacy requirements?
All of your data is stored is stored in Amazon S3 secure storage. Amazon’s data replication and security, multiple storage centers and 99% uptime availability makes it the perfect choice to ensure your data is safe and accessible to you at all times. By default, backups are stored on the Amazon US datacenter, but customers can select AWS E.U. or Australia datacenters by contacting support@cloudally.com.
What certifications does CloudAlly have?
CloudAlly is ISO 27001 certified, the internationally recognized accreditation for information security management. This certification recognizes CloudAlly’s ongoing commitment to secure cloud backup services by strict adherence to industry best practices related to security and risk management, as well as business continuity management and compliance.
Is CloudAlly HIPAA Compliant?
CloudAlly is HIPAA certified and can provide a BAA Agreement on request.
Do you store my user name and password credentials?
In most cases we use an industry standard called OAuth that enables us to backup your data without storing user name and password. Instead, CloudAlly uses a “token” (or permission) to access your data. The token is limited to exactly what CloudAlly needs to do and doesn’t provide CloudAlly general access to your account.
What Office 365 editions is CloudAlly compatible with?
Our Office 365 backup is compatible with all plans including Enterprise (E-plans) Small Business, Education and Non-profit.
What Office 365 features does CloudAlly Backup?
We backup Email, Contacts, Calendars and Tasks, as well as multiple Office 365 domains.
What SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business sites does CloudAlly Backup?
Our backup includes SharePoint Online Team Site (and all sub-sites), Public Site (and all sub- sites), Private Site Collections and OneDrive for Business Sites.
What happens if I change my Office 365 Admin password?
If you change your Office 365 Admin password you can change it on our Backup Task Settings page.
Does the SharePoint backup include sub-sites?
Yes, you can enter specific URLs to backup individual sub-sites as needed.
Can I backup individual OneDrive sites?
Yes, you can specify the individual OneDrive URL in order to backup each OneDrive site.
What happens when I restore a SharePoint or OneDrive site?
You can restore a SharePoint / OneDrive using our non-destructive feature that will create a new sub-site marked “CloudAlly Restore” with a date/time stamp of the restored site. You can also select the In-Place restore option at the time of the restore to overwrite the live data with the selected backups.
How do I add the “Impersonation” role to the Office 365 Admin?
In order to activate individual user backups your Admin account must have Impersonation and be a member of the Management Group. This is done as follows:
- At your Office 365 dashboard click on the “Admin” menu and then click on the “Exchange” menu item.
- Go to “permissions” and double click on “Discovery Management…”
- Add the “ApplicationImpersonation” Role to this roles group.
- Go to “permissions” and double click on ” Organization Management…”
- Add the “ApplicationImpersonation” Role to this roles group.
What Google services does CloudAlly backup within G Suite / Google Apps or my personal Google account?
We backup Gmail, Drive (excludes Google Photos), Sites, Contacts, Calendar, Tasks and Chat within Google Apps and personal Google Accounts. Chat backup can be activated by clicking on “Show in IMAP” on the Chat line of your Gmail Manage Labels page.
Can I backup multiple Google Apps domains?
Yes, if it’s a sub-domain please contact CloudAlly support (support@cloudally.com) and we will activate the backups for you. If you have unique Google Apps domains simply sign in to your Google domain with admin rights and then activate a backup on CloudAlly. You can repeat this process for all your domains.
What Salesforce Editions does CloudAlly backup?
We backup Salesforce data and Chatter streams for Group, Professional, Enterprise, Unlimited, Force.com and Developer editions.
Can I backup multiple Salesforce organizations?
Yes, just sign in to Salesforce with admin rights and then activate a CloudAlly backup for the first instance. You can repeat this process for all Salesforce instances.
How do I restore Salesforce Data?
You can export your Salesforce Archives in CSV format and then use the Salesforce unified Data Import Wizard to upsert/insert records as needed.
